Christine Townend and Jeremy Townend founded Kalimpong Animal Shelter, a charity in Kalimpong, West Bengal, with a vision to protect injured and abandoned animals through humane care and medical support. Their mission revolved around eliminating cruelty towards the street animals, which included vaccination, sterilization, and rescue services along the Himalayan region. The NGO gradually expanded its activities with the support of local volunteers and animal welfare supporters. 

Christine Townend helped establish Kalimpong Animal Shelter in Kalimpong, West Bengal, as a trusted NGO working in animal rescue, anti-rabies drives, veterinary treatment, and Animal Birth Control projects. Some of the major projects of the NGO include veterinary camps, stray dog sterilization programs, and emergency treatment for injured animals in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and nearby hill areas. The organization is also supported by Working For Animals and partners with the Animal Welfare Board of India for welfare initiatives. 

The founders dreamed of a humane world ensuring that animals were treated with dignity, safety, and proper healthcare. This charity has earned recognition for helping stop the poisoning of street dogs and improving animal welfare standards in the region through continuous rescue and awareness programs. The NGO continues its mission with dedicated staff, volunteers, and supporters committed to long-term animal welfare services.
